Our Pub Theology group will be meeting next Tuesday, February 25th (Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, etc.) at Bistro on Bridge in Phoenixville at 7pm. Our topic for the evening will be “Surviving the 2020 Election”
Now I want to offer a disclaimer for this conversation. The plan for this conversation is not to focus on partisanship, who we plan to vote for, who we have voted for, or our current political loyalties. Rather I’d love to discuss how we might be in a more positive head space as we enter this election cycle, how we can aim to be more open minded, more compassionate to those who might hold different opinions, how we might rise above the division polarization that seems to plague our society today. A few sample questions we may discuss are:
When was the first time you participated in an election? Do you remember how you felt about that experience? How has your experience changed since that first time?
Does your faith ever impact the choices you make when selecting candidates to vote for?
When you think about the upcoming election cycle, what emotions do you feel? Why do you think you feel that way?
What is one thing you might be able to do for yourself, or already have done for yourself, that makes this election a more positive experience?
If you could change one thing about American politics today what would that be?
These questions and others will be a part of our discussion. My hope is that it can be a place where we can explore how God is present in the midst of these challenging moments and how we might experience the world in less divided and polarized ways.
